Sketch up has been my favourite this semester. In my opinion, It's fairly simple to use once you understand all the tools. On sketch up there are different tools to help you build your 3D object which for me was a house, and a pool. First select a template, I prefer the ft and inches but there are a few to choose from. Once you have selected a template start building your object. Next, use the tools provided to build your object.
These are the tools. I will explain 4 of them: the rectangle tool, the push/pull tool, the paint tool and the follow me tool. The rectangle tool is very simple to use. First, click the rectangle tool, then drag on a corner to create a rectangle. TRICK: If you need a certain length and height, while still holding onto the rectangle type in your desired measurements. For example, in feet and inches maybe you want a rectangle 30',45'. Just type in the number and hit enter and voila, your rectangle will be that measurement.
the push and pool tool can make the rectangle into a 3D box. Click on the rectangle (or anything you want to push or pull) and move it up or down. Like the rectangle tool, you can type in any measurement you like. TIP: make sure whatever you are wanting to use this tool on is selected. It is selected when blue dots cover that section.
The follow me tool was the hardest tool for me. First, offset the base then click the follow me tool and follow it around the edges. TIP: if you use the line tool and create a triangle, select the triangle and double click it with the follow me tool it will follow it all around the base.
This tool is the simplest. Simply choose a colour and click on the surface. TIP: look in the different folders for different things like brick, grass, etc.
